The official YouTube channel for the Transformers universe posted a fresh 30-second clip from the 12-minute "Optimus Prime: Awakening" animated short on Thursday. (The clip is restricted from playing in Japan.) The short will play after the ending credits in anniversary screenings of Fathom Entertainment and Hasbro's highly anticipated 4K re-arrival of The Transformers: The movie in theaters.
The late Peter Cullen features as Optimus Prime in his final turn. Frank Welker features as Megatron/Soundwave. Josh Wassung is directing the short based on a screenplay by Ryan Parrott.
Bobby Krlic is composing the music and The Third Floor is animating the short. The 4K re-arrival will open in theaters on September 17 in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, fresh Zealand, Mexico, Germany, France, Singapore, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, and Peru.

theaters in September 2021 for the 35th anniversary of the universe. Factory dropped a 35th anniversary steelbook limited edition for the movie in August 2021. The arrival featured the movie on 4K UHD for the first time, with a brand-fresh 4K transfer of the original 35mm movie. Toei Animation animated the 1986 movie as a follow-up to the first animated television seasons of The Transformers.
The animated series is based on Hasbro's toy line, which itself imported toys from Takara's Diaclone and Microman toy lines, among others. Optimus Prime's voice performer Cullen died on August 26 at his home in Los Angeles.
