The anime world is buzzing, and One Piece Announces 2 New Anime Films has become the centre of attention. With fans across the globe debating every detail, this latest update is one that no otaku will want to miss.
The Story So Far
The One Piece Day '26 livestream event on Sunday disclosed two fresh anime captures. The ONE PIECE movie GOD VALLEY will open in summer 2027, and the ONE PIECE movie BAAD will open in 2029. The "God Valley Incident" arc from the original manga centers on an epic battle that happened 38 years in the past on the island of God Valley, featuring the Rocks Pirates, the Roger Pirates, the Marines, and world nobles, among other factions.
Toei Animation and One Piece anime backer RyΕ«ta Koike disclosed in October 2025 that the anime is reducing its annual installment output to a maximum of 26 episodes moving forward starting in 2026. Following the conclusion of the Egghead arc last year, the anime took a three-month production hiatus from January-March 2026.
The anime returned in April 2026 for the first of two cours (quarters of a year) with the start of the fresh Elbaph arc. According to Toei Animation, the fresh schedule will allow episodes to "incorporate more content, tempo, and pacing of the manga while continuing to leverage the unique storytelling that is only possible with animation." Historically, with only few exceptions, the anime has aired most weeks since its first screening in 1999.
However, the pace has slowed considerably over the years. The Egghead arc in the anime made its launch in January 2024. In mid-October 2024, the universe disclosed that the anime's Egghead arc would pause to "recharge," and then the arc would continue in April 2025.
Part 2 of the Egghead arc made its launch with its first installment (1,123rd overall installment) on Fuji TV on April 5, 2025 and aired alongside a recap installment of Part 1 of the Egghead arc. The second installment (1,124th overall installment) aired on April 6, 2025 with its fresh timeslot at 11:15 p.m. During the Egghead arc's break, One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga; a 21-installment abridged version of the Fish-Man Island arc of the anime with reshot moments, retouched art, and other improvements; aired in its place..
