Awarapan (2007) — At a Glance
Brought up by a gangster named Bharat Malik, Shivam Pandit lives a faithless and reckless lifestyle, doing the bidding of his mentor – which also includes being a hit-man. Bharat does not get along with his brother, Raj, and nephew, Munna, who also resent the fact that Bharat trusts Shivam more than he even trusts his son, Ronnie. Shivam's life does change when he meets and falls in love with a devout Muslim woman, Aaliyah. Shivam wants to wed Aaliyah, but her father opposes this due to Shivam's criminal background, and the fact that he has been in prison twice. When Shivam insists on getting married regardless of the consequences, Aaliyah's dad aims a gun at him, but Shivam ducks and the bullet hits Aaliyah, killing her instantly. Shivam returns to his aimless lifestyle, this time in Hong Kong, still continuing to work for Bharat. When Bharat asks him to spy on his Pakistani mistress, Reema, Shivam does so, and finds out that she has a lover named Bilal. Shivam agrees to it but finally has a change of heart when he sees parallel between Reema and the caged birds Aaliyah used to sell to people for the purpose for freeing them from the cage. This leads to a face off between Shivam and Bharat leading to the movie's climax.

The Story So Far
Add as a preferred source on Google Emraan Hashmi’s eagerly awaited Awarapan 2 has been generating considerable buzz among Bollywood admirers, and the movie has now made headlines for another reason. Pakistani vocalist Mustafa Zahid, who originally lent his voice to the popular track ‘Tera Mera Rishta’ from Awarapan, is as per reports in talks to record a fresh version of the track for the highly anticipated follow-up.
The development comes amid the long-standing restrictions surrounding Pakistani artists working in India. According to a report by Mid-day, the makers of Awarapan 2 are considering bringing Mustafa Zahid on board for the revamped version of the much-loved track. A source explained Mid-day, “Should the deal materialise, it will mark one of the rare instances in recent years of a Pakistani playback vocalist recording for a mainstream Hindi movie.” However, the fresh version is as per reports not expected to feature in the movie itself.
The makers are said to be planning to use the track exclusively across social media platforms as part of the movie’s promotional campaign, as including it in the movie could as per reports create difficulties during the certification process. The source further stated, “The professional reunion is awaiting approval from both parties at this stage.” As per the report, the recording could take place in Dubai if the collaboration gets the final approval.
Neither Mustafa Zahid nor the makers of Awarapan 2 have officially commented on the report so far. The reported collaboration comes against the backdrop of restrictions on Pakistani artists in India following the 2016 Uri attack. While several movie bodies had opposed Pakistani artists working in Indian silver major screen, the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition in 2023 seeking a complete legal ban on Pakistani artists appearing in Indian captures.
The issue has continued to remain controversial. Last year, Sardaar Ji 3 and Aabeer Gulaal, featuring Pakistani actors Hania Aamir and Fawad Khan respectively, did not arrival in India. Meanwhile, the makers of Awarapan 2 have already showcased the fresh version of ‘Tera Mera Rishta’.
The track has been composed by Mithoon, Mustafa Zahid and Pritam, with vocals by Saaj Bhatt and Subodhh Sharma.
